Equiseat Aid
The Equiseat Aid is product born out of a passion to help a rider get the best out of ridden work with their horse or pony. The name 'Equiseat Aid' accurately describes the purpose of the product; to focus on the rider’s seat, and aiding their connectedness with the horse.
Many other equestrian training products focus solely on the horse. Unlike these products, Equiseat Aid focuses on the rider but delivers optimum benefit to the ridden horse.
It is a totally holistic product that unlike many other training aids on the market today:
- Does not restrain a horse in any way
- Does not apply pressure on any part of the horse's body
- Can help retrain a rider's muscle memory to resolve long-term ridden/rider injury-related issues
- Delivers long-term, sustainable benefit to both horse and rider
Equiseat Aid is a product for riders of any level, from happy hackers to advanced event riders and top-class dressage riders. It can be used in training and competitively* by children and adults alike.
The Equiseat Aid is designed to fit around your stronger leg, to stop you from "gripping up" and tipping your weight over to the opposite side, allowing your hips to engage symmetrically, straightening your shoulders and pelvis and engaging both seat bones in the saddle evenly, in turn also straightening the upper body through the spine.
We often get asked "how do I know which is my stronger leg?". Typically we might feel that one stirrup is always longer, or our saddle constantly slips to the same side. We can feel our horse flexes and bends better on one rein than the other and when jumping, it's common for a horse to drift to one side. You can always get a friend to video you riding in a straight line and you'll instantly see which side your body favours.
However you discover your dominant side, Equiseat Aid allows you to focus on what you're doing without having to consciously think about where straight is, and over time it builds up the muscle memory so that when you take it off, you will naturally be more symmetrical.
So what does that actually mean for your horse? Well, if your horse has struggled with back soreness, hind leg lameness or any general wear and tear issues, the likelihood is this is symptomatic of rider asymmetry. Most of us will look to our equine physio, our saddle fitter, our trainer/coach and other experts to help us treat these symptoms.
