When riders struggle with tight hip flexors, a leg that creeps up, or difficulty finding a relaxed and balanced seat, the problem isn’t always something that can be fixed by simply being told to “sit deeper” or “lengthen your leg.”
Sometimes, you need to actually feel the difference.
The Equisole Weighted Training Aid adds weight at the rider’s feet to create a gentle gravitational pull. This encourages a more open hip angle, allowing the legs to lengthen and helping the rider settle more naturally into the saddle.
How Does the Equisole Work?
By adding weight to the rider’s boots, the Equisole encourages the hip angle to open and the leg to relax downward. With less restriction through the hips, the rider can better absorb the horse’s movement through the seat and core rather than fighting to hold a position.
For a dressage rider, this can help create the feeling of a longer, more relaxed leg and deeper seat.
For jumping riders, the same gravitational pull encourages the weight to sink through the heels while helping the hips move back into a more stable and effective jumping position.
The goal isn’t to rely on the additional weight. It’s to experience a different position, develop new muscle memory, and learn to recreate that same feeling once the training aid is removed.
Equisole Internal Weighted Training Aid

The internal Equisole Training Aid fits discreetly inside your riding boots.
The weighted insoles are made from hand-poured lead pieces wired together, allowing the insole to move with the rider’s foot. Simply remove the existing insole from your riding boot and replace it with the Equisole.
The Internal Equisole comes in two options:
Slim: approximately 2.4–2.5 lbs
Regular: approximately 2.7–2.9 lbs
The Slim Equisole is designed to better accommodate custom or tight-fitting boots where there may not be enough room for the Regular version. However, some highly customized boots fit so precisely to the rider’s foot that there simply isn’t enough space for any additional weight inside the boot.
In this case, the Equisole EXternal is a great alternative, allowing riders to experience the same weighted training concept without changing the fit inside their boots.
Equisole EXternal Weighted Training Aid

The Equisole EXternal Weighted Training Aid uses the same concept but places the weight outside the boot.
It’s a practical option for trainers and riding instructors. A set can be kept ringside and easily added or removed during a lesson, allowing multiple students to experience the training aid without changing the insoles in their boots.
Who Is the Equisole For?
The Equisole can be particularly helpful for riders working on:
-
Tight hip flexors or difficulty opening the hip angle
-
Developing a longer, more relaxed leg
-
Finding a deeper, more balanced seat
-
Creating a more stable lower leg
-
Improving jumping position
-
Developing greater body awareness and muscle memory
When introducing the Equisole, Correct Connect recommends starting at the walk without stirrups. This gives the rider time to feel the additional weight, allow the hips to open and relax, and become familiar with the change in position before slowly progressing to the trot and canter.
Weight Your Feet, Train Your Seat
The Equisole is ultimately a training tool, not a permanent solution. The added weight helps open the hip angle, lengthen the leg, and create a more grounded connection through the rider’s seat and core.
As you ride with the weights, your body begins adapting to that new position and developing muscle memory around it. When you remove the Equisole, the goal is to reproduce the same relaxed leg, open hip, and balanced seat without the added gravitational pull.
For dressage riders, that might mean carrying a longer, more relaxed leg down the center line. For jumping riders, it could mean naturally sinking more weight into the heels and maintaining a stronger position over fences.
The weight is temporary. What your body learns from it is what you take forward into your riding.
